WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE!
I’m Reggie Bates, but you might know me as Reggie_SoDope. I'm a motivational artist. I infused my personal stories with, music, poetry, and comedy to give my audiences memorable motivational experiences.
Reggie graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology w/ a minor in Sociology. During his undergraduate years he served as the Vice-President of student government, a residential advisor, Homecoming King, as well as various other presidencies of student organizations. While at Northern he co-found SaveChicago NIU (now known as the Remember Project) and brought a stronger student presence to the Beloved Community Dinners of DeKalb.
In 2017, Reggie created the bridging the gap program at his former Elementary School (General George S. Patton Elementary School), which helped connect the class of 2007 to the class of 2017. Through this experience, he realized the importance of mentoring not just in college, but also inside of communities. Now the bridging the gap program will be an annual mentoring initiative that will connect the graduating class of 8th graders to alum that graduated 8th grade 10 years before them.
Reggie has inspired over 14,000 students and 120 schools/groups while working with WE Charities and the Me to WE movement. During his time at WE he opened for the well renowned The Kenyan Boys Choir, facilitated workshops with author/ inspirational speaker Spencer West, mentored the 10 y/o creator of Blessing Bags; Jahkil Jackson, and served as a summer camp counselor/ facilitator and the prestigious Windsong Peace and Leadership Center.
He currently serves as a fine arts instructor at UChicago: Woodlawn Campus. He’s a former Dream Director for The Future Project in Chicago, facilitator for CoolSpeak LLC®, Founder of SoDope Ent., and personality on video podcast series: #LMTMS Presents: The Guys Podcast and Psyck Discussions. Reggie is currently working on his first book entitled “Self-Doubt to SoDope: Your Freedom Starts Within” which is due for a release in 2020.
